We need competent government to create the right conditions for economic growth, that will secure a wealth of opportunity; nursery places, childcare, education and healthcare; we need to ensure social welfare is there for those who need it; we need fair pensions, policing and justice, maintenance of national infrastructure, of roads, transport and utilities.
"I will go to Westminster to fight for what is rightfully ours, including a better deal for our crofters and farmers."
We were promised home rule by the Westminster parties. The Smith Commission leaves 70% of tax powers with Westminster and 85% of welfare spending. That is not home rule. We need powers over taxation and welfare so we can take decisions in Scotland to generate growth and create a fairer society.
The European Commission recognised that Scotland’s crofters and farmers get a raw deal. That is why the EU granted the UK a convergence uplift payment of over €223 million, primarily for Scottish hill farmers and crofters.
The payment has disappeared into Westminster’s coffers. This is not competent government. If elected, I will go to Westminster to fight for what is rightfully ours, including a better deal for our crofters and farmers.
We are being left behind as many cities benefit from ever increasing broadband speeds. Digital commerce is going to represent an ever increasing % of our economy and we are being excluded.
The UK Government could have used their powers under licensing for 3 and 4G mobile coverage to make sure the Highlands and Islands was adequately connected. We need a strong voice to speak up for investment in our digital connectivity.
The SNP has shown in the last eight years that it is competent in government at Holyrood. Now is the time to raise the bar, and to vote SNP in the Westminster elections on 7 May 2015. It's time for a change, and it's time for a strong voice that puts Scotland's interest to the fore.
